Strengthening Communities Through Giving

A Practical Guide to Meaningful Community Engagement

The BforGood Programme Course Overview: The BforGood Programme, run in collaboration with the 45South is a hands-on, four-part workshop series designed to help businesses develop and implement a strategic, measurable approach to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Through expert-led sessions, peer networking, and practical resources, businesses will learn how to align their values with impactful community contributions, build effective partnerships, and measure success.

“These sessions felt collaborative and educational. A space to learn from peers and real-world examples that inspired our own approach. Clare’s expertise helped us understand the ‘why’ behind reporting, choosing the right partnerships, and staying true to our values. We’re excited to roll out our new, measurable strategy.”

What is a Community Foundation?

Community Foundations are local, independent, and not-for-profit. They run a well-proven model of giving which has been growing across the world for over 100 years, and they are now established in 18 regions across New Zealand. We are guided by a parent body, Community Foundations of Aotearoa New Zealand. Community Foundations build long-term, reliable funding streams for their local communities by investing and growing the donations they receive.

45South Foundation

45South Foundation is your Community Foundation. We exist to help nurture and build the prosperity of our region. We do this by connecting generous people with projects and causes they care about. Governed by a group of experienced trustees, we provide a local, cost effective and trustworthy vehicle for you to contribute to the causes that really matter to you. These can be local or national. We provide the charitable framework, expert financial oversight and governance to ensure your giving generates the maximum good whilst also creating an inter-generational legacy.

Sharon Fifield, CEO Queenstown Business Chamber of Commerce

“Supporting our members to build stronger businesses while strengthening our community—that’s exactly what we exist to do. The BforGood Programme delivers on both fronts. We’ve seen our small business members gain practical tools to attract and retain talent, build their brand, and create genuine community impact. The collaborative format means members learn from each other as much as from the programme itself, which creates lasting peer networks. This programme, developed by 45South Community Foundation, is a game-changer for small businesses ready to think strategically about their role in the community.”

The Challenge: Turn ad-hoc charity initiatives into a cohesive, measurable impact strategy aligned with business values.

The Outcome: A plan for a clear medium-term vision backed by frameworks for reporting, partnerships, and community engagement.
